Journey of a Quilter: Top Finished!! (170)

Hi everyone, okay final pics of the Journey of a Quilter Top – it’s finished and I’m so proud of it!!

and a close up of the middle…don’t you just love the silks and the stitching…

Here’s what you get in your finishing kit in your chosen colours: backing, binding and hanging sleeve fabric, silk quarters for your borders and matching thread, tape for layering your quilt, 300 safety pins for basting, Machine Quilting needles for your quilting needs….how does this sound?

If you’ve been interested in the Journey throughout these months but missed out on your chance to partake, I have one kit left that has the same colours as the finished top above…including finishing kit…for a special price, if you’re interested let me (valerie@pastimesonline.ca) know and we can make arrangements 🙂

Antique Quilts Found (168)

This log cabin was truly loved and seeing it in all it’s original fabrics, hand quilted was amazing…A close-up of the detail in the blocks and fabrics used. It was entirely hand quilted, some of the fabric as you can see are disintegrating…I LOVE IT!

This next quilt has an incredible background, might have even been old sheeting or something as it’s so soft. The Chevron border is something you just don’t see today and boy does that make the quilt.

All hand quilted…but you know, one thing that struck me was none of the quilts I found had a label, whether it had worn off through the years or there just wasn’t one to begin with. It’s a bit sad really…

Any ideas of the age of these quilts? The merchants said the Log Cabin was 30’s-40’s and the Lone Star was 20’s -30’s do you think this is right?

I really wanted to find my company name in authentic antique children’s building blocks…

The story goes…there were two large ziploc bags filled with building blocks but to be sure about my specific letters I needed to open the bags and see…the lady was interested also to see if what I needed was in there so we started spelling the name…some of the “n’s” were actually “z’s” and some of the blocks were larger then others (which I loved). There was only this one “L” and it’s old and warn but it worked great!! The lady actually said she had an “L” at home and could bring it for me the next day – what a sweetheart! I was from out of town and thought this “L” would work perfectly…it was also cute because other shoppers were walking by and helping us pick out the letters we needed – what a fun experience!

Until next time, stay happy and creative 🙂

Pies and Tarts Block of the Month (167)

Another block of the month club we will be running soon is Pies and Tarts by Sue Daley. This block of the month club is one of the ones I fell in love with (hmm I think I said that about all of them) and thought it would be a great way to master English Paper piecing and templates as well as use up some of that sash.

The collection I’m going to be using for this incredible project is Eclectic Garden  mixed with Jeval Dupioni Silks. The other goodies you’ll get in your kits are: silk pins, machine needles, acrylic and paper templates, step by step blog postings, videos and sew much more.

~mix in some of your stash to make it your own~

Jeval Dupioni Silks (166)

Today I wanted to show a short video on Jeval Dupioni Silks and how great they are to work with in your quilting projects.

What I wanted to add was the name of the magazine that I read the article in about silks but I’ve seemed to have misplaced it at the moment…

Any questions about Jeval Dupioni Silk, please email me valerie@pastimesonline.ca.

Until next time, stay happy and creative!
