Freebie 15, Pizza Box, Winner (entry 76)

Hi Everyone, as you all know I was away on a retreat last weekend and I wanted to get some things completed so here’s what I finished:

Zach’s quilt, I’m almost finished, just need to do something with the kites then onto binding YAY!!!

Freebie Block – which I love by the way, fall is by far my favourite time of year… this block was a bit interesting to complete because I cut 4 of the blocks wrong good thing I had some extra fabric from one of the previous blocks. Sometimes it’s hard to concentrate at a retreat when everyone is laughing and carrying on lol

The embroidery is complete on the 2nd block for Journey of a Quilter and it’s so beautiful…

I ordered an extra kit if anyone is still interested we have a spot for you 🙂

My pizza box block, I love this block it’s called Double “D” for those of you who follow me, this block is one I’ve completed quite a few times and it always turns out fabulous!

Last but not least, Jan 20th I ran a contest on my website corresponding with me being a Guest Blogger on Quilting Gallery. I drew Deb V’s name, but she didn’t leave an email for me to get in touch with her…so I’ve drawn a new winner, Tammy J – you’ve won a quarter of silk (19.5″x27″) & interfacing to add to your stash, congrats!!!

Also, I’m at the painting stage finished the two coats of primer last night and today my wonderful sister volunteered to help out, so we will be painting baseboards, trim, etc. I’ve also hired a contractor friend of mine and he started yesterday so YAY I have doors 🙂

Here’s my two choices for paint

Dusty Yellow

Shortbread

I’m leaning towards the dusty yellow as it’s a bit more on the country side and the shortbread is a bit too bright.

**I would have recorded another video to show you all but I’m not sure how my DH get’s these all uploaded with my fancy name and everything…next time**

Also A Kittens Tale is ready for sign up, thanks to everyone who’s joined so far we have almost 10 – we would like to have 20 + please tell your friends. We would like to start this project within the next few weeks…

Until next time have a happy and creative day everyone…

Fabric Painting Class & Updates (entry 58)

Hi Ladies, how’s everyone today? I’ve been listening to a pile of podcasts lately and loving all of the good information on them. Allison Rosen just interview Jennifer from CraftSanity and it was soo good.

I love getting to know all of you in this huge online world, more personally. Thus my e-interviews. I have quite a few ladies that I have asked and they have accepted…just waiting for their little write ups and I’ll be posting all about THEM!! If you want to be e-interviewed just let me know!!

So…I’ve taken this amazing fabric painting class with a wonderful teacher, Ana Buzzalino. I painted only one other time in my life on a hard piece of canvas (I’m not sure where that art piece is today…) with my Grandma when I was about 7 maybe, in acrylics.

Anyway, I wanted to learn a new technique and that, I did! Check out my Masterpiece – I’m so proud…it was a day that started out with some frustrations trying to get my head around this painting thing, mixing colours, added water to the right thing – paint not brush- and remembering where the light is coming from…but about halfway through the day we started enjoying ourselves and look at how it turned out.

Here’s the 3 of us that sat together and enjoyed the day learning this amazing new technique

Our finished pears…what do you think? Could you do this? Would you like to try this? If you are in the Calgary area and would like to take a class, email me and we’ll set one up. Also, for those of you who are taking the class May 29th – please tell a friend. We have space for 15 or so and about 8 are taken.

I’ve also completed two of the cutest birthday presents (Chenille Scissor & Needle Keeper) I’ve made to-date…well except Gracie’s Quilt!!

my Mum’s

My SILs

Which one do you like better? What colour scheme would you prefer?

I’m just in the process of finishing up a free chenille tutorial, pattern & kits – so stay turned to learn a great technique.

++++++++++

I’m also working on getting my Freebie 15 block…98 pieces. I’ve cut two blocks wrong and had to re-piece then proceeded to cut one of these two wrong again…can you say “frustrating” and now I can’t seem to get them to fit…so I’ve put it aside for the moment. I have to have it done by Friday morning at 9:30…I’m sure some of you can relate.

Here’s my most recent pizza box, I can say I’m not the biggest fan of the batiks never mind with this lovely metallic fleck added to the design – it’s so hard to sew through…any suggestions? I do however, like the way it turned out in the end 🙂

(can you tell I love this block design?)

++++++++

Here’s Tig waiting for me…well I think she’s waiting but she’s just catching some zzzzzz’s 🙂

she always seems to have her socks on her feet perfectly matched up – little cutie.

Until next time, have a happy & creative day & please pass my blog on and leave a comment 🙂

PS…

THANKS to all of you ladies who signed up for Journey of a Quilter – I’m at 20 people, the cut off is this Sunday (17th). So for those of you who’ve procrastinated…your time is running out and I would LOVE for you to join me…For those interested in Kitten’s Tale I’m still accepting sign-ups for another couple of weeks or so…so let me know if you want to be added to the contact-signups sheet and you’ll be notified when the BOM is ready to start 🙂

Review (entry 30)

Hi all, so over the past week or so I’ve discovered so many ladies have been reading my blog that I didn’t even know about so first off – thanks so much. I really enjoy blogging and really enjoy comments to read. So, if there is something you find interesting and would like to let me know please leave your comments for me to read and respond to.

I’m trying to stick to a bit of a routine with my blogging. Today is Review day and today I would like to review the many things I have on the go and I will be continuing to blog about as well as this excellent magazine.

Pizza Box Challenge: for those of you who don’t know what a pizza box challenge is – you put one block together (yours) add .5 of a meter of your favourite fabric from that block and pass it on in a pizza box. I just finished my first one for Shannon, generally you arn’t supposed to show the blocks to the person as it’s kind of a surprise but I was so pleased with this block that I know have to show it and do my review.

This was one of the very first reference magazines I bought for quilting Better Homes and Gardens 100 Quilt Blocks – my SIL and I both bought it and it’s been an excellent reference guide for so many of my exchanges, challenges and on and on.

So here’s the block (Double T) I did for Shannon…sorry Shannon but I have to blog about your block and it’s so nice with the silks.

here’s the fabrics I chose, blue is Shannon’s and the green is mine.

Didn’t this block turn out so great!!

To come:

additional pizza box challenges

Quilt I’m designing for my friends baby…(I have to be careful here as I think she reads my blog too)

Finishing my Freebie 15 project 08-09 and Starting the Freebie 15 project 09-10 years project

Mystery Quilt from Flying Needles

Mystery Quilt from Lakeside Quilters

Kitten’s Tale & Journey of a Quilter – Pastimes Online BOM (if you want to participate they will be starting up in Jan 2010 so vote when you have a chance)

So as usual I have so many projects on the go…thanks for following me on my Quilters Journey (see how suiting the one BOM is:)
